Mihail Ivanov

Mihail Ivanov - Misho was born on the 5th of November in Sofia, Bulgaria. He started taking piano lessons at the age of 8, studied classical guitar from the age of 11. At age 17 he started playing the double bass under the guidance of his father, a professional double bass player.In 2002 he was enrolled at the jazz department of the ‘Conservatorium van Amsterdam’. In 2006 he obtained his bachelor degree.

In 2008 together with the “Blazin' Quartet” he won the Dutch Jazz Competition and was awarded with the “NORMA Best Soloist Prize 2008”.
The jury (Tineke Postma a.o.) said then: 'The apparent freedom and the fabulous technique of Mihail Ivanov bring the sometimes complex sound of the band to a whole in a swinging and fresh way.'
In March 2009 as part of the Aleksandar Grujic Trio, Mihail won 1st prize at the Holland Casino Jazz & Pop award. In 2010 Mihail was chosen to participate in the semi finals of the BASS2010 Competition in Berlin together with 12 other young bassist from all over the world with head of the jury being Greg Cohen./p>

Since then he's been performing all over the world with the Blazin' Quartet, Bodurov Trio, Acquaphonica, Roberto Sanchez Picasso Trio, Martin Lubenov's Jazzta Prasta Trio, The Bulchemists and others.
Mihail has performed in The Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Belgium, Luxembourg, France, Spain, Italy, Serbia, Slovakia, Greece, Bulgaria, Brazil, Mexico, China, Thailand, Israel.
